As I write this blog post for the Mount Vernon Parks Foundation, my last as president of this fine organization, I feel the need to recap, reflect and look ahead.

Here’s the highlights of what we all accomplished together during 2018 and what’s ahead for 2019.
For the second year in a row, MVPF has organized an educational outreach program that sent 450 Mount Vernon area 5th Graders to Little Mountain Park for a day of physical activity and appreciation of our prized local natural resource that is Little Mountain Park.
This summer our Trail Builders hope to brush out some sections of trail which have gotten overgrown, complete repair work on rockery walls, add rock armoring to sections of the flow trail, and take a well-earned vacation (August).
Now that we are through with that nasty spell of smoky weather the smell of fall is in the air, and on Little Mountain that means TRAIL BUILDING. We successfully completed the new connector trail this spring and summer, and after our summer break in August are excited to be tackling a bigger fish this fall- Little Mountain's first Mountain Bike Flow trail.
This spring our all-volunteer Mount Vernon Parks Foundation launched a new program it developed for bringing Mount Vernon School District fifth grade classrooms to Little Mountain Park. The intent of the field trips were to link the students’ experiences at the North Cascades Institute's Mountain School in North Cascades National Park to environments much closer to home…
We had a hugely successful launch to the 2017 build season yesterday and thanks to all who contributed! I was lucky enough to spend the day floating between working groups and got a great sense of the community of folks who use and love the trails of little mountain.
